Proudly overlooking the village, Abondance Abbey is not merely a historic monument; it is a journey through the history of Savoy. Founded by canons from Saint-Maurice, this gem of Gothic art shines with its elegant architecture and serene atmosphere.
A veritable open-air picture book, its medieval cloister houses a cycle of 15th-century murals of exceptional finesse, illustrating the life of the Virgin Mary. Beneath the stone vaults, the silence invites contemplation, whilst the light plays across the arches.
The tour continues in the former monastery with the exhibition ‘From History to Art: Sacred Heritage in the Abondance Valley’.
